Joyful Brush® Performance Video Painting and music improvisations with Virginia Lloyd-Davies and pianist Josh Harvey |
|
Rose & Bees |
This 62 minute video includes paintings of irises, peonies, roses, bamboo, crocus, tiger lilies, finches and humming birds.
What you will witness will be the captivating combination of art and music, created spontaneously by Virginia Lloyd-Davies and Josh Harvey as they improvise together. You will see flowers and birds emerge magically, stroke by stroke on the white rice paper - no pre-sketching, no corrections, just the brush dancing to the music. Chinese Brush painting is considered a performing art as well as a graphic art since the rhythm and grace of the strokes are as important as the final picture. The sense of movement, the dance that you will see, must still be inherent in the final result; the serenity and healing that this art form conveys comes from the performers' balance of chi or fire, life force and yun or technical discipline. Virginia and pianist Josh Harvey have performed frequently on PBS Television, donating the finished creations to be auctioned off over the air to raise money for Public Television. Brad Roof for WVPT-TV, writes: What you do with your art and then embellish all that creativity with Josh's music ..... it is just watching beauty happen. You know when we see beauty, it's almost always in a static state ....... It has already been created by man or nature. But with your work, we get to see it unfold before our eyes. We get to see beauty happen. And then Josh's music forms an ethereal pathway that opens our hearts and minds so those very special moments travel deeply within us to not just see, but to experience and feel your creation of beauty. That is so special. |
