I am just getting started in this technique and LOVE your tutorials and plan to purchase them. Please tell me where I can get the practice rice paper and the 3 brushes you most recommend. It seems Blue Heron is pretty pricy to just be starting out, which I don't mind if I buy the perfect materials to suit my beginning needs.
Thanks for your guidance!

Good to hear from you, Lauri, and to know that you enjoy my tutorials. Both OAS and Blue Heron Arts are reliable sources in the USA. I recommend you get at the very least a medium size weasel brush for painting bamboo and orchid. I started off with one and used it for ten years! A cheap brush will not do you any favors. For paper, you can use newsprint, though a student practice roll of machine made rice paper is better. You don't need to start off with the handmade papers; practicing the strokes is the most important discipline as a beginner. A bottle of black Chinese ink will last you a long time. Be sure to place a piece of felt or newspaper under your painting paper so the ink can penetrate and not smudge. good luck and happy painting!
